After months of anticipation and user complaints, ITVX, ITV’s streaming app, finally launched on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 consoles this week.
The move comes as a relief to PlayStation owners who have been eagerly awaiting the arrival of the service on their devices.
ITVX’s predecessor, ITV Hub, was not available on PlayStation 4 or 5. But now, Sony’s gaming console owners can finally start streaming ITV’s content on their devices, joining their Xbox friends who have had access to ITVX for quite some time.
ITVX is ITV’s free, ad-supported streaming service that replaced the ITV Hub app in late 2022.
The platform offers more than 20,000 hours of content, including a mix of UK and US series, movies, and exclusive shows that are added weekly.
This week, ITVX got a boost of 1,100+ hours of content from AMC – including drama and reality TV programmes.
Users can opt for a Premium tier at £5.99/month or £59.99/year, which removes most of the adverts and grants access to the BritBox library and selections from Studio Canal Presents.
PlayStation Users No Longer Left Out
Since its launch, ITVX has been expanding to various platforms, including Amazon Fire TV, Android, Apple devices, and most Smart TVs.
However, PlayStation users have been feeling neglected, as the app was already available on Xbox consoles for some time.
Many PlayStation owners took to social media to express their frustration about the lack of ITVX support on their consoles. Some even questioned whether ITV had any plans to bring the app to PlayStation at all.
Since its launch, ITVX has faced quite a few compatibility issues with certain devices (mostly older ones), leaving some users unable to access the service.
There’s a long list of devices that don’t support ITV’s streaming app – and likely won’t ever support it – from popular Freeview boxes like the Humax FVP-5000t, to Freesat boxes like the Humax Hb1000s, and older Smart TVs from Samsung and other manufacturers.
Older iPhones and iPads also lost ITVX support last year.
But starting this week, PS4 and PS5 users can finally rejoice, as the wait is finally over for PlayStation fans.
With the official launch of ITVX on PS4 and PS5 consoles, users can now access the streaming service’s vast library of content.
This means that at this point, ITVX is available on the following game consoles:
- PlayStation 4
- PlayStation 5
- Nvidia Shield
- Xbox One
- Xbox Series S
- Xbox Series X
To install ITVX on your PS4 or PS5 console, simply search for it by name – you can then start watching even without signing up for an account.
