ITVX Is Adding Another Streaming Service To Its Paid Tier

ITVX, the streaming service that replaced ITV Hub, is getting another premium offering that will bolster its paid, premium library with over 400 films and TV shows.

ITV announced today that Studio Canal Presents – a streaming service that includes international classics as well as modern British co-productions – will become a part of ITVX Premium.

This will bring titles like Paddington, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, Alan Patridge:Alpha Papa and Russell T Davies’ dystopian drama Years and Years (which originally aired on the BBC) to ITVX’s subscription tier.

Currently, ITVX Premium offers two perks to paying subscribers – it eliminates most (but not all) adverts, and gives access to BritBox’s streaming library.

Following the new partnership, Studio Canal Presents’ library will be added in the spring (see more content highlights below).

What Is ITVX Premium?

ITV’s new streaming app, ITVX, is, first and foremost, a free-to-watch (with adverts) service that includes catch-up content as well as box-sets and exclusive shows.

The service launched with more than 10,000 hours of on-demand content, including 35 flagship shows, 200+ series and 250+ films.

ITVX is available on most of the streaming devices in the UK (including, as of last week, Sky Q) – though it’s missing from a few older Freeview and Freesat boxes, as well as older Smart TVs.

In addition to the on-demand content, you can also stream all of ITV’s live channels via the app, as well as several “themed” ad-supported live channels that are dedicated to a single series or theme – although ITVX’s live channels are NOT available on Freeview Play devices and some Smart TVs.

In addition to the free tier, ITVX has an optional Premium tier that removes most of the adverts and gives you access to the entire content library of BritBox, which includes more than 4,000 hours of classic British shows and films, including 600+ classic Doctor Who episodes.

As we previously reported, BritBox no longer offers standalone subscriptions to new subscribers, and is instead sending people to ITVX’s Premium tier.

ITVX Premium costs £5.99/month or £59.99/year.

Studio Canal Coming To ITVX

Studio Canal Presents is a standalone streaming service that’s already available in the UK on Apple TV and as a Prime Video Channel.

The service is owned by Studio Canal – a Canal+ company – which is a European leader in the production, distribution and international sales of feature films and series.

On its own, Studio Canal Presents costs £4.99/month.

But from the spring, ITVX Premium subscribers will get it as part of their regular £5.99/month subscription, at no extra cost.

The new partnership will give ITVX Premium viewers access to a curated selection of films and series from Studio Canal’s extensive library, including family favourites like Paddington and Paddington 2, A Shaun the Sheep Movie: Farmageddon, and The Railway Children starring Jenny Agutter.

Studio Canal Presents also features award-winning homegrown and international films such as Legend starring Tom Hardy, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy starring Gary Oldman, Non Stop starring Liam Neeson, The Imitation Game starring Benedict Cumberbatch, Apocalypse Now starring Marlon Brando, David Lynch’s Mulholland Drive, and more.

In terms of TV shows, the service holds the rights to TV series such as Hannibal (the prequel series to The Silence of the Lambs), Years and Years, all eight series of popular French procedural Spiral, hip-hop drama All the Way Up (which broke streaming records upon its launch on Canal+ in France) and cult Danish thriller Below the Surface.

ITV’s Director of Content Partnerships, Streaming, Laura Franses said:

“We are thrilled to announce our partnership with Studio Canal Presents. This fantastic collection of films and television series is the perfect addition to ITVX Premium, where subscribers can browse quality content ad-free to their hearts’ content.”

  1. Cannot comment on itvx as for done reason it won’t work on my 2016 smart TV, and itv hub no longer works.
Strange that because every other app works perfectly, Netflix, Amazon, I-player etc.

I wonder how many Millions of viewers (like me) itv have abandoned, bet they don’t tell anyone that bit of information.

  2. When it comes, I hope they organise the interface better than what it is now, I watch a lot of BritBox, but trying to find it, it’s all over the place, rather than having a complete separate BritBox section, I hope that studio canal presents gets a proper separate section, other than that I love ITV X, Areally good start.
