Apple TV+, the critically acclaimed streaming TV service from Apple, will cost you more – starting today – in the UK (as well as in several other countries).
The price hike, according to Apple, is due to the service’s growing content library. At the same time, Apple is also raising the prices of its Apple Music subscription service, as well Apple One – its online services bundle.
With this price rise, Apple is joining other streaming services that changed their pricing in recent months, including Netflix, Amazon Prime, Disney+ (only in the US, for now) and even Sky, with its Sky Glass plans that now cost more.
Since its launch, Apple TV+ was £4.99/month in the UK. Starting today, Apple TV+ is now £6.99/month, though some users can get extended free trials (see below).
The annual price has gone up from £49.99 to £69.99/year.
In the US, the price has gone up from $4.99 to $6.99.
Apple’s music streaming service, Apple Music, has gone up in the UK from £9.99/month to £10.99/month.
And Apple’s online services bundle, Apple One, has gone up from £14.95/month to £16.95/month.
What Is Apple TV+?
Apple’s streaming service is the company’s answer to Netflix, Amazon’s Prime Video, and Disney+.

It’s a streaming VOD service, that lets you watch original content from Apple – movies, documentaries and TV programmes, and it’s available on most Smart TVs, smartphones and streaming devices sold in the UK.
Unlike most other streaming services, Apple TV+ only airs “originals”, so it doesn’t have a huge library of past content from other channels.
But in the past year, Apple TV+ made a name for itself thanks to several critically acclaimed original TV shows and films: For All Mankind, Ted Lasso, Foundation, Slow Horses and academy-award-winning film, CODA.
This growing library was reason enough for Apple to announce a price rise, though it must be noted that – compared to the other major streaming services – the library on Apple TV+ is still relatively small.
As of today, Apple TV+ now costs £6.99/month for new users. Existing Apple TV+ users will reportedly get notified by email 30 days before their prices go up.
Apple TV+ lets you share your subscription with up to five family members – and, as of this writing, there are no known plans from Apple’s side to restrict account sharing, as Netflix is planning to do soon.
How To Get Apple TV+ For Free?
Every new user can get a free 7-day trial to Apple TV+, but there are ways to get several months for free.
As of this writing, some Apple TV+ offers in the UK include:
New subscribers with a new – or existing – Roku device can get 3 free months.
If you buy a new iOS device (iPhone, iPad etc.), you can get 3 free months.
Customers with a PS5 can get a free 6-months trial, or 3 months with a PS4.
Whilst the quality of programs on Apple TV+ is good I don’t think it justifies the cost increase. Will just pay for a month when Foundation Season 2 and For All Mankind Season 4 are out.
Agreed. Inflation busting price rise. I’ll probably subscribe temporarily for those two shows plus Slow Horses & Ted Lasso though…
