Global streaming service Paramount+ is finally coming to the UK – and it’s bringing with it a long list of blockbuster films, including some fresh hits like Top Gun: Maverick, Sonic the Hedgehog 2 and Scream 5.
As is often the case, streaming release dates in the US are not identical to those in the UK. Sonic the Hedgehog 2, for example, is already available on Paramount+ in the US, but will only come to the UK version later this year.
While we already knew about some of the highly anticipated TV shows that are coming to Paramount+ UK, and some of the classic films, a list that was announced this week by Sky – one of Paramount Plus’ launch partners – has finally confirmed that some of this year’s biggest blockbusters will be coming to the streaming service as well.

So – look below for the updated list of films that are coming to Paramount+ UK this year.
What Is Paramount Plus?
Paramount+ started as an American streaming service (previously known as CBS All Access), but it has been going global this year. It is owned by Paramount Global (previously ViacomCBS), which also owns Channel 5 in the UK.
In the UK, Paramount+ will be available as a stand-alone streaming app/service, from June 22, 2022.
In the UK, Paramount+ will cost £6.99/month or £69.90/year, and will also offer a free 7-days trial (See more details about Paramount+ UK here).
Sky Cinema subscribers with Sky Q and Sky Glass devices will be able to get Paramount+ for free, as a “bonus”. Sky+ customers will not get access to the full app, but will instead have a range of content automatically available on their box (see our full guide on how Sky customers can watch Paramount+ for free).
NOW subscribers (Sky’s streaming service) will not be getting Paramount+ for free, though they’ll be able to continue to watch some of Paramount’s films that will continue to show up on the Sky Cinema package.
At launch, Paramount+ will offer more than 8,000 hours of content – from original, exclusive TV shows to popular US shows and blockbuster films.
New content will be added every week, and later on, the service will also feature original UK programmes.
Blockbuster Films Coming To Paramount+ UK
With Paramount Pictures being one of the leading film studios in the US (and has been operating since 1916), it has a long list of blockbusters in its archives – as well as new hit films.
Some of those films will be exclusive to Paramount+ in the UK, while others will continue to show up on VOD stores as well as on Sky Cinema and other streaming services.
And while we don’t have exact release dates for some of these films yet (and also remember that dates sometimes get moved around at the last minute) – it has at least been confirmed that they will indeed be coming to Paramount+ in the UK this year.
Top Gun: Maverick
The sequel to 1986’s Top Gun, the film is already the second-highest grossing film of 2022, having broken several box office records.
After more than 30 years of service as one of the Navy’s top aviators, Pete “Maverick” Mitchell (Tom Cruise) is where he belongs, pushing the envelope as a courageous test pilot and dodging the advancement in rank that would ground him.
Training a detachment of graduates for a special assignment, Maverick must confront the ghosts of his past and his deepest fears, culminating in a mission that demands the ultimate sacrifice from those who choose to fly it.
The film also stars Miles Teller, Jennifer Connelly and Jon Hamm, with Val Kilmer also reprising his role from the original film.
When Is Top Gun: Maverick Coming To Paramount+ UK?
The film was released in UK cinemas on May 25, 2022.
Home streaming release windows have been getting shorter and shorter in recent years (with some films jumping from cinemas to streaming after less than two months).
But Top Gun: Maverick is going to be a different case – reportedly, Tom Cruise has insisted on keeping a 120 days release window for the film.
Therefore, while it has been confirmed that Top Gun: Maverick is indeed coming to Paramount+ in the UK, we shouldn’t expect it on the service before September 2022.
One of 2022’s most hotly anticipated sequels, Scream (also known as Scream 5) did very well in cinemas worldwide, and a 6th sequel has already been approved.
Twenty-five years after a streak of brutal murders shocked the quiet town of Woodsboro, Calif., a new killer dons the Ghostface mask and begins targeting a group of teenagers to resurrect secrets from the town’s deadly past.
As before, the film is a horror fest with self-referential comedy notes. It stars Melissa Barrera, Mason Gooding, Jenna Ortega and Jack Quaid, with some of the original cast members returning – Neve Campbell, Skeet Ulrich, Courteney Cox and more.
When Is Scream Coming To Paramount+ UK?

One of the highest-grossing video game films of all time, Sonic the Hedgehog 2, directed by Jeff Fowler, is a sequel to the popular first film from 2020.
Sonic the Hedgehog 2 sees the return of the world’s favourite blue hedgehog for a next-level adventure. After settling in Green Hills, Sonic is eager to prove he has what it takes to be a true hero.
His test comes when Dr. Robotnik returns, this time with a new partner, Knuckles, in search for an emerald that has the power to destroy civilizations.
Sonic teams up with his own sidekick, Tails, and together they embark on a globe-trotting journey to find the emerald before it falls into the wrong hands.
The film stars Ben Schwartz as the voice of Sonic, James Marsden, Tika Sumpter, Natasha Rothwell and Jim Carrey returning.

Clifford the Big Red Dog
An adventure comedy for children, based on the book series of the same name.
When Emily Elizabeth meets a magical animal rescuer who gives her a little red puppy, she never anticipated waking up to find a giant, 10-foot hound in her small New York City apartment.
With her single mother away on business, Emily and her fun but impulsive uncle set out on an adventure that takes a bite out of the Big Apple.
The film stars Jack Whitehall, Darby Camp and Tony Hale.

An action-adventure directed by the Nee brothers, the film was a modest success in cinemas around the world.

While on tour promoting her new book with Alan, Loretta gets kidnapped by an eccentric billionaire who hopes she can lead him to an ancient city’s lost treasure from her latest story.
