Paramount+ UK: What Hit Shows Are Coming On Launch Day?

This post may contain affiliate links*

The highly anticipated US streaming service, Paramount+, is finally coming to the UK this month – and we can now reveal more details about some of the hit films and TV shows that will be on it right from the start.

The good news? Past hits, as well as new popular shows, are coming on June 22: From Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, Halo and The Man Who Fell To Earth, to Yellowstone, Yellowjackets, Mayor of Kingstown and more.

The bad news? Some of the shows that are already running in the US (some have even concluded by now) will get weekly episodes on Paramount+ in the UK, and not a full drop of episodes – so we will stay behind the US for a while longer (Disney+ did a similar thing when it first launched in the UK).

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, for example, will have aired seven episodes by June 22. But in the UK, only the first three episodes will drop on June 22, with the rest then airing weekly.

The same goes for Halo, which has already finished airing its nine episodes in the US – but will drop three episodes on June 22 in the UK, with the rest airing weekly.

What Is Paramount+?

Paramount+ originally launched in the US in 2014, and was known back then as CBS All Access, until it changed its name.

In the UK, Paramount+ will be available as a stand-alone streaming app/service. The app will be available on all the major streaming devices – Amazon Fire TV, Roku and others, and will also be available as an Amazon Prime Video Channel.

Paramount+ will cost £6.99/month or £69.90/year, and will also offer a free 7-days trial (See more details about Paramount+ UK here).

As we reported last month, Paramount+ UK will not support 4K/HDR or Dolby Atmos at launch.

Sky Cinema subscribers will get it for free – but the deal will apparently be offered only to Sky Q and Sky Glass customers (see our full guide on how to get Paramount+ on Sky, for free).

NOW subscribers, even if they have a Sky Cinema membership, will not get Paramount+ for free.

It’s important to note, however, that unlike Peacock – another US streaming service – a Sky subscription is NOT required for those who want to subscribe directly to Paramount+ – it’s simply a bonus to Sky Cinema members.

At launch, Paramount+ will offer more than 8,000 hours of content – from original, exclusive TV shows to popular US shows and blockbusters films. It will also feature original UK programmes (though not at launch, as they’re still being produced).

Here are some of the Paramount+ content highlights for June 2022 (this is not the full list of expected titles) –

HALO (Season 1)

Starring Pablo Schreiber, Natascha McElhone and Jen Taylor, this original Paramount+ series is based on the popular XBOX games franchise.

Dramatizing an epic 26th-century conflict between humanity and an alien threat known as the Covenant, HALO the series will weave deeply drawn personal stories with action, adventure and a richly imagined vision of the future.

The series stars Pablo Schreiber (American Gods) as the Master Chief, Spartan-117; Natascha McElhone (Californication) as Dr. Halsey, the brilliant, conflicted and inscrutable creator of the Spartan super soldiers; and Jen Taylor (Halo game series) as Cortana, the most advanced AI in human history, and potentially the key to the survival of the human race.

In the US, the show launched on March 24, 2022, and has finished airing its 9 episodes of Season 1.

  • On Paramount+ UK, Episodes 1-3 will drop at launch (June 22), with new weekly episodes airing every Wednesday.

A Paramount+ Original.

In the US, the show launched on May 5, 2022. Season 1 will have a total of 10 episodes.

  • On Paramount+ UK, Episodes 1-3 will drop at launch (June 22), with new weekly episodes airing every Wednesday.

A Paramount+ Original, starring Jeremy Renner, Dianne West and Kyle Chandler.

Mayor of Kingstown

Mayor of Kingstown follows the McLusky family, power brokers and liaisons between prisoners and the community in Kingstown, Michigan, where the business of incarceration is the only thriving industry.

Tackling themes of systemic racism, corruption, and inequality, the series provides a stark look at their attempt to bring order and justice to a town that has neither.

  • On Paramount+ UK, all 10 episodes will drop at launch (June 22).

Yellowstone (Seasons 1-3)

Yellowstone follows the Dutton family, led by John Dutton (Kevin Costner), who controls the largest contiguous ranch in the country, which is under constant attack by those it borders – land developers, the Broken Rock Indian reservation, and the country’s first National Park.

It’s a generational family saga, set against the backdrop of the great frontier, where land grabs make developers billions, and politicians are bought and sold by the world’s largest oil and lumber corporations, where drinking water poisoned by fracking wells and unsolved murders are not news; they are a consequence of living in the new frontier.

The series depicts the best and worst of mankind seen through the eyes of a pioneering family.

The first two seasons originally aired on the Paramount Network in the UK. Season 3 will be exclusive to Paramount+ in the UK, and Season 4 already aired in the US (but won’t be available in the UK at launch).

  • On Paramount+ UK, all 29 episodes of Seasons 1-3 will drop at launch (June 22).

In a stark retelling of Western expansion, and an intense study of one family fleeing poverty, 1883 sees the family seek a better future in America’s promised land: Montana.

Sam Elliot is Shea Brennan, a tough as nails, handsome cowboy with immense sadness in his past. He has the herculean task of guiding a group from Texas to Montana, and he does not suffer fools. Tim McGraw and Faith Hill portray James and Margaret Dutton, the patriarch and matriarch of the Dutton family, respectively.

  • On Paramount+ UK, all 11 episodes will drop at launch (June 22).

American Rust (Season 1)

When the woman he truly loves (Maura Tierney) sees her son accused of murder, Harris is forced to decide what lengths he is willing to take to protect him.

  • On Paramount+ UK, all 9 episodes will drop at launch (June 22).

Yellowjackets (Season 1)

One of the most talked-about shows last winter, Yellowjackets originally aired on Showtime in the US and, earlier this year, on Sky in the UK.

Equal parts survival epic, psychological horror story and coming-of-age drama, Yellowjackets is the saga of a wildly talented high school girls soccer team who become the (un)lucky survivors of a plane crash deep in the remote northern wilderness.

The series chronicles their descent from a complicated but thriving team to savage clans, while also tracking the lives they’ve attempted to piece back together nearly 25 years later.

The series is hosted by Graham Norton, with Vanessa Williams, Michelle Visage, Trixie Mattel and Leona Lewis forming the “Pop Diva Panel” of judges.

  1. I don’t think it’s worth the money… I don’t like south park, I’m not interested in Star Trek and none of the other shows appeal so I am thinking it’s gonna be a hard pass.

  2. There is no rupaul dragrace even though all of it is available on paramount plus in the US.

Does anyone know if this will be added later?

  3. One huge thing missed out on this which is quite surprising is the Beavis and Butt-Head comeback that’s going on Paramount Plus. The brand new movie “Beavis and Butt-Head Do The Universe” is coming out the day after the UK launch date alongside all the classic episodes which the media are saying that not only are they remastered and all available which has never been before however they will also include the music video’s which is absolutely huge, a huge selling point for Paramount Plus.

Bare in mind this is the first movie since “Beavis and Butt-Head Do America” in 1996, which a follow up has been asked for ever since, so it’s a pretty big deal and they’ve also announced two brand new series to follow and a spin off too it seems.

And specially the day after it’s launch with the week free trial, it could be the thing that hooks in many viewers to subscribe to the platform.

Paramount Plus are doing a wonderful job and their prices also are just right, which again is what will be the catalyst in regards to long term success or not.

It’s going to be great!! 🙂
