Fans of the iconic Australian soap opera, Neighbours, have been eagerly awaiting the return of their favourite show. Today, we can finally share some exciting news.
The official teaser trailer for the new chapter of Neighbours has been released, and even more importantly, the premiere date has finally been confirmed – September 18, 2023 (see more scheduling details below).
The beloved series, which has been off-air since its finale in 2022, is set to make a triumphant return to screens, exclusively on Amazon’s free streaming service – Freevee (in the UK and the US. In other countries, it will air on Prime Video).
Jason Herbison, Neighbours’ Executive Producer, expressed the team’s excitement about the return of the show, stating:
“All the cast and crew are incredibly excited that Ramsay Street will officially welcome viewers again to the neighbourhood on 18 September in the UK and Australia, and also be introduced to brand new audiences in the US and Canada when the new chapter of Neighbours is unveiled.”
Neighbours Returning… To Streaming
The series, which has been a staple of Australian television for over three decades, follows the lives, loves, and challenges of the residents on Ramsay Street in Erinsborough, a fictional suburb of Melbourne.
The show has garnered a global fanbase and launched the careers of many household names, such as Margot Robbie, Kylie Minogue, Guy Pearce, and Russell Crowe.
However, in February 2022, Channel 5, which was the main funder of the show, announced that it would no longer air the series, leading to its cancellation.
The final episode aired in July 2022, featuring guest appearances from former series cast members Kylie Minogue, Guy Pearce, Jason Donovan, and Margot Robbie
Despite the cancellation, fans campaigned for the show’s return, and eventually, Amazon stepped in to save the series. Production for the new season officially began on April 17, 2023, at Nunawading Studios in Melbourne, Australia.
The new series will star a mix of familiar faces and fresh talent.
Stefan Dennis, Alan Fletcher, Ryan Moloney, Jackie Woodburne, and Annie Jones are all set to reprise their roles.
In addition, Annie Jones (Jane Harris), Rebekah Elmaloglou (Terese Willis), Georgie Stone (Mackenzie Hargreaves), and Tim Kano (Leo Tanaka) would return as series regulars.
Ian Smith (Harold Bishop), April Rose Pengilly (Chloe Brennan), and Melissa Bell (Lucy Robinson) will also return in guest roles
The new season will also introduce the vibrant Varga-Murphy family, comprising two mums and their teenage sons, who promise to bring a breath of fresh air to the neighbourhood – and a hint of mystery.
