In a major shake-up of UK sports broadcasting, Eurosport will disappear from TV screens next month, with all its content moving to TNT Sports. But while many viewers will need to pay more to watch their favourite sports, there’s also good news for Freeview and Freesat users.
The changes will affect millions of Sky and Virgin Media customers who currently get Eurosport channels at no extra cost in their basic packages, while Discovery+ streaming subscribers will see their service simplified into just two tiers, with all sports content moving to the premium package.
This marks the final chapter in a transformation that began in July 2023, when BT Sport was rebranded as TNT Sports following Warner Bros. Discovery’s acquisition of BT’s sports business.
The Journey From BT Sport to TNT Sports
When TNT Sports launched in 2023, replacing the familiar BT Sport brand, the service maintained a somewhat complex structure.
TNT Sports took over BT Sport’s premium rights and channels, while Eurosport continued operating separately – though both were available through Discovery+, which served as the streaming home for both services.
At the time, Warner Bros. Discovery (which owns Eurosport and jointly owns TNT Sports) did say that, eventually, Eurosport would be folded into the TNT Sports brand.
TNT Sports is available either via the pay-TV platforms (such as Sky) – or via Discovery+. Until today’s changes, Discovery+ offered three distinct tiers:
- Basic (£3.99/month): Focused on entertainment content, including shows from channels like Discovery Channel, TLC, and Animal Planet
- Standard (£6.99/month): Adds Eurosport content to the basic tier, offering access to tennis Grand Slams, cycling Grand Tours, and winter sports
- Premium (£30.99/month): Includes everything from the lower tiers plus TNT Sports’ premium content like Premier League matches, UEFA Champions League, and UFC
The Premium tier saw a price increase in January 2024, rising from £29.99 to £30.99 per month.
What’s Changing?
The most significant change is the closure of the Eurosport brand and its two linear channels in the UK and Ireland.
These channels, which are currently available at no extra cost in Sky and Virgin Media’s basic packages, will cease broadcasting on February 28, 2025.
Instead, all sports content will be consolidated under the TNT Sports banner, with four premium TNT Sports channels that will require additional payment through your pay-TV provider.
This means all of Eurosport’s existing sports coverage will now be found on TNT Sports, including:
- Tennis: Australian Open and Roland-Garros
- Cycling: Grand Tours and UCI Mountain Bike World Series
- Winter Sports: All major World Championships and World Cup events
- Motorsports: British and World Superbikes
- Snooker
- Olympic Games coverage (2026-2032)
These will join TNT Sports’ existing lineup of Premier League football, UEFA Champions League, Premiership Rugby, MotoGP, international cricket, UFC, and boxing – creating a single destination for premium sports content.
WBD confirmed to Cord Busters that Discovery+ will also change its structure to just two tiers:
- Basic (Currently £3.99/month or £39.99/year): Entertainment content only
- Premium (Currently £30.99/month): All entertainment content plus the complete TNT Sports offering, including all former Eurosport content
The current “Standard” tier, which includes Eurosport content, will be discontinued.
- Update: Discovery+’s changes have already taken place today. Therefore, the “Standard” tier is no longer available to new customers.
While the price is set to remain at these levels for now, it’s worth noting that streaming services often adjust their pricing around major service changes – so we’ll let you know if any changes are announced in the near future.
From now on, however, those who only want Eurosport’s limited sports content, will no longer have that option.
Impact on Sky and Virgin Media Customers
This change will particularly affect Sky and Virgin Media customers, who currently receive Eurosport 1 and Eurosport 2 as part of their basic TV packages at no extra cost.
These channels have long been a valuable addition to basic TV subscriptions, offering access to major tennis tournaments, cycling races, and winter sports without requiring a premium sports package.
From February 28, viewers who currently enjoy Eurosport’s content through their basic TV package will need to upgrade to a TNT Sports package to continue watching these events.
For context, TNT Sports currently costs around £30 per month on Sky (though prices vary based on contract type and any ongoing promotions).
Virgin Media used to include TNT Sports as part of some of their TV bundles at no extra cost – but that has changed in 2023.
Neither Sky nor Virgin Media has yet announced any changes to their sports packages in response to this integration.
There’s a possibility they might introduce new, more affordable sports tiers or bundle options to maintain access to this content for their customers, but this remains to be seen.
More Free Sports on Quest
While premium sports content is moving behind TNT Sports’ paywall, Warner Bros. Discovery is expanding its free sports offerings through Quest (available on Freeview channel 12, Freesat 167, Sky 144 and Virgin Media 137).
This expansion began in late 2024, when TNT Sports announced that starting from the 2025 MotoGP season, Quest would broadcast every Sprint race live.
This marked a significant shift in making motorsport more accessible to UK viewers, as previously these races were only available through paid subscriptions.
Now, with the Eurosport integration, Warner Bros. Discovery is further expanding Quest’s sports coverage to include:
- A new weekly cycling show covering key moments throughout the season
- Highlights of major cycling events including the Giro d’Italia and La Vuelta a España
- Continued live coverage of Bennetts British Superbikes
- New sports documentaries
How To Watch TNT Sports After The Change
The expanded TNT Sports offering will continue to be available through multiple platforms:
- Discovery+ Premium subscription (£30.99/month)
- Sky (as an add-on package)
- Virgin Media TV (as an add-on package)
- EE TV (various subscription options)
- Amazon Prime Video Channels (via Discovery+ Premium)
While this marks the end of the Eurosport brand in the UK and Ireland, it’s worth noting that Eurosport’s channels and brand will continue to operate unchanged in more than 50 other countries and territories where it is available today.

We pay for Discovery, for Eurosport, for the Tour de France and other cycling, and for skiing. Nothing else. Even if we watched more sports, football etc, TNT costs far too much. We just cannot afford £30.99 a month, way out of our price range. I think this will indeed affect the take-up of cycling in the UK by young people, and by others.
Wow, I didn’t know this and don’t know how I missed the news. I’ve watched Eurosport from the early days and love the various programming outputs. There is no way I’m paying for TNT. It’s just out of my reach financially.
Virgin Media sent an email announcing end of Eurosport and offering temporary free upgrade to TNT Sports for 6-18 months, depending on current contract term. Called Virgin Media to accept, call center guy denied that this offer existed.
The ever increasing imperialism of US based media platforms (including social media) should be a genuine concern to anyone who takes a gentler approach to life & leisure. When it seeks to monetise our leisure habits (on a take it or leave it basis) it’s time to ditch it. Models that force us to accept subscriptions based upon the monetisation of shareholder, ‘scaling-up’ and an ‘America First’philosophy are for suckers. Do what I did, Ditch your subscription, ditch your smart phone, and find other ways to enjoy your life. You cant fight American capitalism. It has no moral form.
I only watch the British and world superbikes. I used to watch motogp but that became unaffordable via bt sport, so lost interest and don’t follow.
About 4yrs ago i paid £29 per year for eurosport so i could watch superbikes.
Then it changed to discovery+ @ £7mth so £84yr which i wasn’t happy at all, but reluctantly stretched to this.
Now tnt have informed me that it’s £31mth £372yr!!
For a load of sport I’m not interested in, i only want to watch the superbikes!
So easy decision for me as it’s way too much, I’ve unsubscibed from discovery+ and won’t be subscribing to tnt.
I was able to login to Discovery+ today (1st Feb) and watch TV shows, via Sky Q, without problem.
It did advertise a live sports programme, but if you clicked on it you were referred to TNT.
When Sky hijacked tennis from Amazon I refused to pay the big increase in subscription costs, so I was left with just three of the majors – Aussie Open, Roland Garros and Wimbledon. Now it looks like I’ll only be watching Wimbledon in future. I just wonder if the ATP and WTA care about their fanbase or just income. I used to watch tennis tournaments throughout the year on Amazon. Now, I barely see any tennis on UK telly at all. If this change is coming in at the end of Feb 2025, I guess I can forget about watching Roland Garros this year. Screw them.
This is a terrible decision by Discovery. It will lead to a collapse in viewing figures for cycling in the UK. This will eventually feed through to fewer younger viewers being inspired to take up the sport.
The implication for cycling sponsors is unknown but it is not favourable. Sponsors depend on eyeballs to see their corporate logos on cycling jerseys throughout the year. Fewer viewers will lead to a lower return on sponsorship investment and could see fewer teams and more unemployed cyclists going forward.
I doubt TNT Sports in the UK is profitable and this decision looks like a classic business mistake of increasing prices to try and plug the black hole.
The truth is that BT/Discovery have paid too much for their sporting rights and cannot get enough paying customers to make the business stack up. This latest decision looks like making things worse.
They can stick that “offer”…….from 7.99 to 30.99 to watch the same things? Yeah right…….I hope they lose millions of subscribers
More daylight robbery from the goons that control tv. I will not be paying extra, indeed I will by asking Sky for a price reduction for loosing content
David Braddock do you really think you’ll be able to negotiate a 10p a month reduction in your subscription?
I usually watch the tennis on Eurosport and was considering dropping TNT Sports from my Virgin Media package the next time it comes up for renewal because for the price TNT Sports is they don’t offer nearly as much as Sky did now they have lost most of the Italian football and all the French football as well as the WWE stuff. If anything this is just a way for them to fill the gaps they have lost recently rather than spending additional money. It’s a shame they are just closing the two Eurosport channels though instead of renaming them. Not sure yet if I’ll renew just yet though.
We only use Eurosport Discovery + to watch snooker and WSBk at £360+ a year it’s not for me.
This is outrageous and debilitating dunno how I will be able to afford to watch the cycling. The only sport I am into.
gutted to hear eurosport 1and 2 will finish at the end of febuary they come in very handy for me for watching grand slam tennis and snooker threw out the year i didnt have to pay for them with my sky package thanks a lot tnt sports and you got absolute no chance of me paying £30.00 a month to watch sport i didnt have to pay extra for.
My smart TV says “Manage your subscription on https://auth.discoveryplus.com/gb/my-account
but when you log into your account it says “Changes to billing details must be made through your app store”
Most unhelpful and contradictory as usual.
I only bought a subscription to watch the Tennis AO in January and so I won’t ever be paying £30.00 a month subscription for Snooker, Rugby Football, Boxing, Formula E that I don’t watch.
Discovery+ was cluncky and confusing at best so it needed to change but to go for an all or nothing approach is a wrong choice in my opinion so it’s Bye Bye from me.
i normally watch 24 hours of le mans on eurosport via discovery plus ,whats the solution for this year
It’ll be on TNT. That’s the solution. Either watch it on those channels or watch it on the app.
The standard tier is no longer available to subscribe as of today
