MotoGP fans in the UK are in for a treat, as races will soon be more widely available to watch for free on Freeview and Freesat.
While ITV has been showing select races and highlights in recent years, a new multi-year broadcasting deal will make the sport more accessible than ever from 2025.
The agreement sees TNT Sports retain its position as the main home of MotoGP in the UK, while bringing Sprint races and select Grand Prix to its sister free-to-air channel Quest.
The deal marks another significant milestone for TNT Sports, which has been steadily expanding its sports portfolio since rebranding from BT Sport in 2023.
The broadcaster, now operating under the Warner Bros. Discovery umbrella, emerged from a merger between BT Sport and Eurosport that brought together two powerhouses in sports broadcasting.
TNT Sports has already established itself as a major player in UK sports broadcasting, with rights to prestigious competitions, including the UEFA Champions League, Premier League matches, and UFC events.
The continuation of MotoGP rights further cements its position in motorsport broadcasting alongside Formula E.
What’s Included in the New Deal?
The multi-year agreement ensures that TNT Sports and Discovery+ will continue as the primary home of MotoGP in the UK and Ireland, offering viewers wide access to every aspect of the championship.
Race weekend coverage will be comprehensive, with TNT Sports broadcasting every practice session, qualifying round, and race from each Grand Prix.
This includes the main MotoGP class featuring stars like Marc Marquez, Jorge Martin and Francesco Bagnaia, who consistently deliver some of motorsport’s most thrilling battles.
The broadcaster will also continue to provide full coverage of the Tissot Sprint races – the shorter, more intense Saturday races that were introduced to add extra excitement to race weekends and have quickly become fan favourites.
Beyond the premier class, viewers can follow every twist and turn of the Moto2 championship, where British talent Jake Dixon continues to chase glory, along with complete coverage of Moto3, where tomorrow’s MotoGP stars cut their teeth in some of the closest racing you’ll ever see.
The deal extends beyond traditional race categories, encompassing:
- The FIM Women’s Circuit Racing World Championship
- The FIM MotoE World Championship, showcasing the future of electric motorcycle racing
- Road to MotoGP competitions, which nurture young racing talent
MotoGP Coming To Quest Channel
As part of the new broadcasting deal, Warner Bros. Discovery will be bringing MotoGP action to its free-to-air channel Quest starting from the 2025 season.
Quest, one of Warner Bros. Discovery’s largest channels in the UK, is already known for popular shows like Wheeler Dealers, Salvage Hunters and Aussie Gold Hunters.
The addition of MotoGP marks a significant expansion of its sports coverage, making motorcycle racing accessible to a wider audience.
Starting in 2025, Quest viewers will be able to watch MotoGP content without needing a paid subscription, on Freeview (Channel 12), Freesat (Channel 167) and the basic TV bundles of Sky (Channel 144) and Virgin Media (Channel 137).
The free-to-air offering on Quest will include:
- Live coverage of every Sprint race from every round
- Two live MotoGP races per season, including the British Grand Prix
- A brand new weekly highlights show
While ITV has been showing select races and highlights in recent years, this new deal brings a more substantial free offering to British viewers, though it’s worth noting that ITV’s future involvement in MotoGP broadcasting hasn’t yet been confirmed for 2025 and beyond.
For those who prefer streaming, Quest is also available through the Discovery+ website and apps.
Trojan Paillot, SVP Sports Rights Acquisitions at Warner Bros. Discovery Sports Europe, emphasised the significance of the deal: “MotoGP is, without a doubt, one of the most exciting sporting properties across the globe.
“To be able to take MotoGP to our free-to-air channel Quest will complement our live coverage on TNT Sports, helping to broaden its popularity beyond its traditional motorsports fanbase.”
The 2025 MotoGP season will make history by starting with the ThaiGP on the weekend of February 28-March 2 – the first time in 25 years that the season has opened in South-East Asia.
The championship will feature an impressive 22 Grand Prix across 18 countries, concluding in Valencia, Spain.
