As the Premier League gears up for its highly anticipated kickoff this weekend, TNT Sports has unveiled an ambitious lineup for the 2024/25 season, promising fans a diverse array of premium live sports content
The network, which rebranded from BT Sport last year, will continue to offer a mix of football, rugby, and other sports content across various platforms.
TNT Sports’ schedule includes 52 live Premier League matches and coverage of UEFA club competitions. The broadcaster has also expanded its rugby offerings, securing rights to the Autumn Nations Series and Gallagher Premiership Rugby
This lineup comes amid ongoing changes in UK sports broadcasting, with new rights deals set to reshape how fans access Premier League content from the 2025/26 season.
Formerly known as BT Sport, TNT Sports underwent a major transformation in 2023 following a merger between BT Sport and Eurosport.
This union brought together two powerhouses in sports broadcasting, combining BT Sport’s strong football coverage with Eurosport’s diverse portfolio of international events.
The rebranding to TNT Sports marked a new era for the broadcaster, now operating under the Warner Bros. Discovery umbrella and available on pay-TV platforms as well as directly via Discovery+ (see more on that below).
This transition allowed for a broader range of content, with TNT Sports securing rights to major events and expanding its coverage across multiple sports.
Football Remains at the Forefront
Football continues to be the cornerstone of TNT Sports’ offerings.
The upcoming season will see the broadcaster air 52 exclusive live Premier League matches, including two full midweek rounds.
The coverage kicks off with a tantalising fixture between newly-promoted Ipswich Town and Liverpool at Portman Road, featuring pre-match analysis from a star-studded panel including Lynsey Hipgrave, Peter Crouch, and Joe Cole.
Speaking at a TNT Sports’ event this week, three-time Premier League champion Joe Cole said: “The last football season was one of the best we’ve ever seen, but when I look ahead to this season, I feel like it could be even better.
“With so much talent across the board, the Premier League is without doubt the strongest league in the world, and I am excited to see what the new format of the Champions League is going to offer us. I just can’t wait for it all to get started.”
European football fans have reason to celebrate as well, as TNT Sports retains the rights to UEFA men’s club competitions.
Viewers can catch all the action from the UEFA Champions League, Europa League, and Conference League on TNT Sports and Discovery+.
The broadcaster will also air selected UEFA Women’s Champions League ties, further expanding its commitment to women’s football.
In a significant coup for Serie A fans, TNT Sports has renewed its broadcast rights for the Italian top flight.
The deal includes 76 live games throughout the season, starting with Genoa vs Inter Milan. Additionally, a weekly highlights programme will showcase every goal from the previous Serie A weekend.
The first Friday of every month will also see the release of new episodes of the second season of TNT Sports’ TV series, Sign Up – Into Football, a show aimed at raising the profile of the deaf community and elevating the visibility of British Sign Language (BSL) in sports programming.
A brand-new football documentary about the rise of Worthing FC, The Club That George Built, will also premiere on TNT Sports and Discovery+ in October.
Rugby Takes Centre Stage
Rugby coverage sees a substantial expansion this season. For the first time, TNT Sports will exclusively broadcast all 21 fixtures of the iconic Autumn Nations Series internationals in November.
In another first, every single Gallagher Premiership Rugby match will be available on TNT Sports and Discovery+, offering expanded access for rugby fans.
The commitment to rugby extends to the women’s game, with continued coverage of Premiership Women’s Rugby matches.
International sevens enthusiasts can look forward to each round of the HSBC World Rugby SVNS series being broadcast live.
It’s also worth noting for Rugby fans that while TNT Sports continues to expand its rugby coverage, Premier Sports has recently secured a significant deal with EPCR (European Professional Club Rugby) to become the lead broadcaster of the Investec Champions Cup and EPCR Challenge Cup in the UK and Ireland for the next three seasons.
This agreement, running until 2026/27, will see Premier Sports cover all 63 Investec Champions Cup matches and select EPCR Challenge Cup games.
Moreover, Premier Sports has announced plans to create and launch a 24/7 rugby channel, with the Investec Champions Cup and EPCR Challenge Cup at its core.
Combat Sports and More
UFC events remain a staple of TNT Sports’ weekend schedule, complemented by regular boxing nights from iconic venues like York Hall.
High-profile bouts, such as Anthony Joshua vs Daniel Dubois for the IBF world heavyweight title at Wembley Stadium, will be available on TNT Sports Box Office (on a pay-per-view model).
Motorsport fans haven’t been forgotten, with exclusive live coverage of both MotoGP and Formula E World Championships.
American sports are well-represented too, with over 250 live NBA games and Major League Baseball coverage throughout the season.
Cricket enthusiasts can look forward to overseas international action, including England’s One Day International tour of India in early 2025.
Looking Ahead: Changes on the Horizon
While the upcoming season promises a feast of sports action, significant changes loom on the horizon for Premier League broadcasting.
From the 2025/26 season, a new £6.7 billion television rights deal will reshape how British fans consume top-flight football.
Sky Sports is set to increase its coverage to 215 live games per season, including all first-pick matches and exclusive rights to the final day’s fixtures.
TNT Sports will continue to play a major role, retaining rights to 52 live matches, including the coveted Saturday 12:30 pm slot.
Notably, Amazon’s Prime Video will no longer be part of the Premier League broadcasting landscape. The BBC will continue to provide highlight coverage through its popular Match of the Day programme.
