Sky Cuts Prices On TV, Netflix, Cinema & Sports Bundles

Just before the end of summer, Sky is bringing back some of its lowest offers on a bunch of bundles – where you get TV, Netflix, cinema and Sky Sports – which includes the newly launched Sky Sports+ platform.

So, for example, you can currently get a bundle that includes the Sky Stream box (Sky’s broadband-based box), Sky’s premium TV channels, Netflix, Freeview via broadband, and Sky Cinema – for just £28/month (instead of £41/month), for 24 months.

Remember that Sky Cinema also includes a subscription for Paramount+ at no extra cost.

If you’re in the market for Sky Sports, you can get a similar bundle, also based on Sky Stream, which includes Sky’s TV channels, Netflix, Freeview via broadband, Sky Sports, and the Ultra HD (4K) add-on.

Normally, this bundle costs £52/month. But to keep the launch celebrations of Sky Sports+ going, Sky is offering it for just £44/month.

Annoyingly, this was available for £43/month in Sky’s previous promotion – but if you missed that offer, this can still be a good bargain for some.

However, to get these offers, you have to sign a 24-month contract (Sky recently upped its contract length from 18 months to 24) – but at least the discount will stick around for the entire length of the contract (unless you cancel).

And, as is always the case, prices WILL go up annually (around March), and with a 24-month contract, this means you’ll be facing two in-contract price increases.

If you’re not interested in sports or films – there are some limited-time discounts on other bundles and add-ons as well – see below for the full details.

The New Kid On The Block: Sky Sports+

Sky Sports+ launched on August 8, 2024, expanding Sky’s existing sports offering.

Sky Sports+ is available to existing Sky customers with a full Sky Sports subscription at no extra cost, and is also available to NOW customers with sports passes.

The new service includes:

  • Increased live coverage (over 50% more), with the ability to stream up to 100 live events simultaneously
  • A dedicated linear channel replacing Sky Sports Arena
  • Enhanced EFL coverage, featuring all 72 teams and every men’s Super League match
  • Expanded coverage of other sports events like ATP and WTA Tours, US Open, and PGA Tour
  • New features such as live pause and rewind on all streams, including on NOW
  • Early access to Sky’s sports documentaries
  • An updated Sky Sports mobile app with improved navigation and personalization

The streaming aspect is accessible on various platforms, including Sky Glass, Sky Stream, Sky Q, NOW, and select Virgin Media and EE TV devices.

However, older devices like Sky+ boxes (which are being discontinued) only offer the new linear channel, as they don’t support streaming.

Sky Stream’s Pricing Explained

The current limited-time deals are offered to those who get Sky’s streaming device, Stream.

Sky Stream (see my review) is a standalone 4K streaming box, also known as the “puck”, launched by Sky in late 2022.

Unlike Sky’s traditional devices (such as Sky Q), Sky Stream doesn’t require a satellite dish – and instead, uses broadband to stream TV shows to you (including Freeview channels) – positioning itself alongside the likes of Amazon Fire TV, Roku, and Google’s Chromecast in the streaming device market.

What sets Sky Stream apart is its unique combination: it offers both the hardware (which you get as a loan) and Sky’s TV service under a single subscription.

Once you sign up, you get all of Sky’s TV channels (depending on your subscription), as well as third-party channels and some Freeview channels, streamed to the box via broadband (so you don’t need a satellite dish, and you don’t need an aerial).

Sky Stream also includes apps for most of the major streaming services available in the UK, including Disney+, Netflix, Amazon’s Prime Video and Paramount+ (here’s the full list of Sky Stream apps and channels).

Another significant difference between Stream and Sky Q, is that Sky Stream doesn’t require a long-term contract. The basic contract is a rolling 31-day agreement that you can cancel at any time without penalty charges.

However, a 24-month contract option is also available – and most of the bigger discounts require the long-term contract.

The minimum basic package for Sky Stream users is Sky Ultimate, which includes Sky Entertainment (a pack of channels like Sky Atlantic, Sky Max, and others), Freeview, and the standard ad-supported Netflix plan (it used to be the basic, no-adverts plan – but Sky changed this last year).

The rolling-contract version of this package on Sky Stream normally costs £31/month, and the same plan, with the 24-month contract, is £28/month (but, as with many broadband and pay-TV providers, prices will, unfortunately, change during your contract period – usually in line with inflation, and sometimes more than that).

In addition to the standard Sky Ultimate bundle, you can add more packs and channels from Sky and third parties, such as Sky Cinema, Sky Sports, Sky Kids, and TNT Sports.

If you want to add 4K and Dolby Atmosit’s normally Â£6/month. And if you want to fast-forward adverts, it’s Â£5/month.

Lastly, if you want to watch in other rooms, you need the “Whole Home” add-on, which is normally £13/month. The first Whole Home puck (so the second for you in total) is free for now, but you will have to pay £39.95 for additional ones.

Sky Stream Summer Offers

From now until September 18, 2024, sky is offering discounts on several of its bundles.

These are not the lowest-ever prices we’ve seen for these bundles – in fact, most are £1/month above other recent offers – but that’s still pretty good, IF you’re willing to sign the long-term contract.

As always, the downside is that by signing up for 24 months, you lose the flexibility cord cutting normally gives you, to mix and match streaming services across different periods.

But if you’re planning to stay with Sky for a long time – then you should only sign up when special offers like these are available.

Sky Sports Offer

With the launch of Sky Sports+, Sky is currently offering a bundle that includes:

  • The Sky Stream box
  • Sky Ultimate (Sky’s premium TV channels and Freeview via broadband)
  • Netflix (Standard with Ads)
  • Sky Sports

Normally, this bundle costs £52/month with the 24-month contract.

Sky TV Offer

The standard bundle, which includes:

  • The Sky Stream box
  • Sky Ultimate (Sky’s premium TV channels and Freeview via broadband)
  • Netflix (Standard with Ads)

Normally, this bundle costs £28/month for a 24-month contract.

Now, you can get it for £20/month.

Sky Cinema Offer

This bundle includes Sky Cinema, so you get:

  • The Sky Stream box
  • Sky Ultimate (Sky’s premium TV channels and Freeview via broadband)
  • Netflix (Standard with Ads)
  • Sky Cinema (Weekly film premieres, live film channels, and 1,000 on-demand films)
  • Paramount+ (at no extra cost, which is worth £6.99/month)
  • 2 Free Vue tickets every month

This bundle usually costs £41/month for 24 months.

Currently, you can get it for £28/month.

  1. I fina lly left Sky Stream earlier this week. I finally decided that Sky’s prices could no longer be justified. They are effectively charging you £25 to get a handful of channels over and above what’s available on Freeview. I had the basic package plus Sky Sport and it was coming to a fraction under £50. Add to that the totally inadequate Ad Skipping service which I had for half price, and you have a very expensive and utterly shoddy service. I can buy a lot of streaming for less than half what I was giving Sky.

    • NowTV offers UHD and other discounts, so it looks far more attractive than Stream. It is a shame there is no Freeview package to subscribe to if you have Sky broadband, like with Sky Q tv essentials

    • I totally agree @Poppasmurf.

Sky’s pricing structure is a mess. With Stream they are making the customer pay way too much for its Entertainment channels and basic Netflix.

As James below points out, Now TV offers better deals. I have Entertainment on a six month deal for £6.99 p/m. Sky Sports on a 12 month deal for £26 per month and a rolling Boost add on – no adverts for on demand content, 3 devices can be used at the same time and UHD Sports – for £6 p/m

Throw in a monthly HD Netflix subscription for £10.99 and the whole package is costing me £49.98 p/m.

To get the equivalent on Sky Stream is £77p/m on a 24 month contract.

Granted, I don’t have an integrated user interface with freeview channels but I find my Apple TV with the TV Launcher app and watching freeview channels through apps is more than good enough.
