That’s TV Gold, a channel dedicated to classic TV and nostalgia, is launching on Freesat this week, and is now available on Freesat Channel 178.

The channel features entertainment, music and films from the 60s to today, and includes documentaries on musical icons and film legends as well as full concerts from yesteryears and collections of music videos from across the decades.

That’s TV Gold launched on Freeview and Sky back in June, and according to the people behind it, there were many requests to launch it on Freesat as well.

Freesat, which was established in 2007 by the BBC and ITV, offers more than 200 free-to-air TV channels and radio stations, all transmitted via digital satellite.

To watch Freesat, you need a dish outside your house and a Freesat receiver (see our recommended Freesat boxes here), which is why it can sometimes work better in areas where Freeview reception is bad.

A few months ago, a big shakeup was announced, when Freesat and Freeview came under the roof of a single company, Digital UK, a company owned jointly by the BBC, ITV and Channel 4 (Though to confuse things a bit further, there’s also DTV Services LTD, which operates Freeview – where Sky is also a shareholder).

Nonetheless, despite many channels being available on both Freeview and Freesat, some are only available on one or the other – which was the case with That’s TV Gold, until now.

Angie Mee, Director of Content Partnerships at Freesat, said: “We are thrilled to welcome That’s TV Gold to the ever-expanding Freesat service.

“As well as bringing our customers the newest content, we also understand their love of shows from their past and That’s TV Gold brings with it some of the very finest.”

That’s TV Gold Head of Programming, Kristiina Vaiksalu, added: “We are delighted to be in a position to bring our brand of classic entertainment to Freesat viewers.

“Our schedule will reflect the popular culture we all grew up with and feature some of the biggest names in UK television over the past five decades.”

What Can I Watch On That’s TV Gold?

That’s TV Gold was created by That’s Media, the UK’s largest local TV operator, who also operates the That’s TV local network.

Their network currently broadcasts in 20 metro regions of the UK – though that part is still only available on Freeview.

That’s TV Gold airs 24/7 (with some teleshopping in the mornings), and is dedicated to popular entertainment – lots of music videos, but also documentaries, and even some old sitcoms.
