Uncharted, the blockbuster film based on the popular video game series, is now available to watch on TV via digital streaming in the UK, almost three months after its release in cinemas.
The film, which stars Tom Holland and Mark Wahlberg, came to digital VOD stores in the UK on April 26, 2022.
Unlike other popular film releases, Uncharted is not a Premium Rental, and instead can already be bought (to own digitally) –
The film has been released digitally in the US on the same day – this is similar to Sony’s other recent hit film – Spider-Man: No Way Home, which was released to digital streaming stores around the world on the same day.
The physical editions of Uncharted – DVD and 4K Blu-ray – are also available to pre-order, and are expected to be delivered in the UK on May 9, 2022.
In the US, the physical editions will be released on May 10, so UK viewers will likely get the physical copies a day earlier (see more bonus material details below).
Uncharted, directed by Ruben Fleischer, has been in development for many years, with various filmmakers trying to create a live-action version of the popular video game series.
The film follows the story of street-smart thief Nathan Drake (Tom Holland), who is recruited by seasoned treasure hunter Victor “Sully” Sullivan (Mark Wahlberg) to recover a fortune lost by Ferdinand Magellan 500 years ago.
What starts as a heist job for the duo becomes a globe-trotting, white-knuckle race to reach the prize before the ruthless Moncada (Antonio Banderas), who believes he and his family are the rightful heirs.
If Nate and Sully can decipher the clues and solve one of the world’s oldest mysteries, they stand to find $5 billion in treasure and perhaps even Nate’s long-lost brother… but only if they can learn to work together.
Uncharted was originally set to be released in cinemas in December 2020, but like many pandemic-era films, Uncharted’s release date had to be postponed several times. Eventually, it was released in the UK on February 11, 2022, and a week later in the US.
Despite earning a lukewarm response from both critics and fans, the film managed to become the third highest-grossing film of 2022 – though, of course, the year has only started.
It grossed a total of $357.5 million worldwide, as of the end of March 2022.
How To Watch Uncharted Online In The UK
Uncharted is now available to purchase and stream digitally in the UK, since April 26, 2022.
If you want to watch Uncharted on your TV or smartphone, it is available on Amazon’s Prime Video store, Rakuten TV, iTunes and other streaming video stores.
This is not a Premium Rental – instead, the film is available as a digital purchase, which you buy and then own digitally.
The price, as of this writing, stands at £13.99.
While this price point is similar to the cost of past premium rentals, such as No Time To Die and Dune (which were £15.99), there’s one major difference – a premium rental is only available to watch for 48 hours, while a digital purchase lets you own the film indefinitely.
At a later date (usually a few weeks after the initial release) the film will also become available as a lower-cost digital rental.
With an April 26 release date, Uncharted is being released on home entertainment 74 days after its original release in UK cinemas – that’s later than what we’ve grown accustomed to in recent months.
However, it is still much earlier than films of the past, where it used to take several months before films transferred from movie theatres to home entertainment.
Can I Watch Uncharted On Netflix?
A few months after the VOD purchase and rental releases, films typically land on subscription-based streaming services.
In the US, Sony signed an agreement with Netflix, where most of their new films – including Uncharted, will eventually become available to stream.
In the UK, however, it is still unknown which streaming subscription service Uncharted will end up on.
So it may end up on Netflix in the UK, or even Sky / NOW – but an announcement hasn’t been made yet.
Uncharted DVD And Blu-ray
The physical editions of Uncharted – DVD, Bluray and 4K Bluray – are already available to pre-order as well, and will be released on May 9, 2022.
In the US, the following bonus material has been announced for the Blu-ray editions – and will most likely be identical in the UK:
- Deleted and Extended Scenes
- Behind the Scenes Featurettes
- Becoming Nathan Drake
- Big Action Breakdown: C-17 Globemaster
