One of the biggest films of 2022, Top Gun: Maverick, is finally coming to subscription-based TV in the UK, where subscribers will be able to watch it on their TV at no extra cost.

The sequel to 1986’s Top Gun, starring Tom Cruise, was first released to digital streaming stores in the UK, for buying or renting, on August 24, 2022, 91 days after its theatrical release on our side of the pond.

We now finally know that Top Gun: Maverick will be coming to the Paramount+ streaming service in the UK, on December 22, 2022 – just in time for Christmas.

As of this writing, the film is available to rent (in 4K) for £4.49, or buy (also in 4K) for £13.99.

But when the film goes up on Paramount+, subscribers will be able to watch it at no extra cost (see below on how to get Paramount+ in the UK).

Top Gun: Maverick won’t be in 4K on Paramount+, unfortunately, since the service doesn’t yet support Ultra HD in the UK.

We understand the film will be exclusive to Paramount+ in the UK for 45 days, at which point it will become available to stream on another broadcaster (while also remaining on P+).

Nevertheless, getting such a big hit is a big win for the streaming service in the UK, after it saw some big Paramount films like Scream 5 coming in a long time after its US streaming debut, and after Sonic the Hedgehog 2 was released on Sky and NOW a month before its Paramount+ debut.

Top Gun: Maverick, directed by Joseph Kosinski, was a massive success for Paramount this year, earning more than $1.3 billion at the global box office, and becoming one of the top 10 earners of all time in the US.

After more than 30 years of service as one of the Navy’s top aviators, Pete “Maverick” Mitchell (Tom Cruise) is where he belongs, pushing the envelope as a courageous test pilot and dodging the advancement in rank that would ground him.

Training a detachment of graduates for a special assignment, Maverick must confront the ghosts of his past and his deepest fears, as he comes face to face with Lt. Bradshaw (Miles Teller), the son of his former wingman “Goose”.

Bitter rivalries ignite as the pilots prepare for a mission that demands the ultimate sacrifice from those who choose to fly it.

The film also stars Jennifer Connelly and Jon Hamm, with Val Kilmer reprising his role from the original film.

How To Watch Top Gun: Maverick On Paramount+

Top Gun: Maverick will become available to watch on Thursday, December 22, on Paramount+ in the UK.

Paramount Plus on phone earbuds

Paramount+ is a streaming service that offers content from CBS, Showtime and Paramount Pictures, as well as exclusive, original programmes and films.

Paramount+ costs £6.99/month or £69.90/year in the UK, with a free 7-day trial available to everyone (although there are often some coupons that can give you a 30-days free trial).

The standalone Paramount+ app is available on most major streaming devices and Smart TVs sold in the UK, and you can sign up either directly via the Paramount+ app/website, or via Amazon Prime Video Channels.

Prime Video Channels require an Amazon Prime subscription, and you then subscribe to Paramount+ on top of that. You will then be able to watch Paramount+ on any device that supports the Prime Video app, not just those with the Paramount+ app.

Sky Cinema subscribers, who also have Sky Q, Sky Glass or the new Sky Stream box, can get Paramount+ for free.

  1. You’d hope that Paramount Global would use a film like this to launch 4K availability to its UK & Ireland customers. Had the pleasure to see this when it was released and it was the 4K IMAX version; It was stunning.
A HD version simply isn’t going to cut it for me, which make P+ not worth the money
