Sky Glass TVs Just Got Cheaper Thanks To Rare Price Cut

Sky Glass – Sky’s all-in-one streaming TV – is getting a rare price cut, with up to £100 off across all models.

While we often see discounts on Sky’s TV packages and content add-ons, it’s not very common to see reductions on the hardware itself.

But that’s exactly what’s happening now, with the 43″ model, for example, dropping to £599 (from £699), along with the usual discounts on the content packs (see full details below).

So what exactly is Sky Glass? Think of it as two products combined into one: First, it’s a 4K QLED TV with a built-in Dolby Atmos soundbar. But it’s also Sky’s streaming service, built right into the TV – no satellite dish needed, unlike Sky Q.

You simply plug it into power, connect it to your broadband (any provider will do – unlike Virgin Media Stream and EE TV’s Pro Box, which require those companies’ broadband), and you’re ready to watch all of Sky’s content – plus streaming apps like Netflix, Disney+ and others.

But here’s an important bit to understand: You pay separately for the TV itself (either upfront or in monthly instalments), AND for Sky’s content packages – which start at £15/month for the new Essential TV bundle.

Sky Glass first launched in October 2021, making it more than three years old now – which is quite a long time in the TV world. Since then, it’s had plenty of software updates that have improved both the picture quality and added new features (including, recently, a highly requested advert skipping upgrade).

It’s also important to remember that due to the TV itself being an outright purchase (and not a subscription), existing customers who are already paying their Sky Glass instalments will not be affected by this price decrease, which will only affect new buyers.

The New Sky Glass Prices – And How They Compare

Sky’s deals typically lower the price of the content packs – and not the hardware. Occasionally, however, we do see discounts on the TVs themselves – which is the case this month.

The new prices are a decent step down from what Sky Glass has been selling for recently, though not quite as low as that special offer we saw in May 2024.

The 43″ model originally launched at £649, then went up to £699. Now, you can get it for £599 if you pay upfront – that’s £100 off the most recent price, but still £44 more than what it cost during May’s promotion.

If you want the 55″ version, it’ll now cost you £849 upfront. That’s £100 less than its recent price of £949, and actually pretty close to its original launch price of £849.

The biggest model, the 65″ Sky Glass, is now available for £1,099 – down from £1,199, though still a bit more than its original £1,049 launch price.

Don’t fancy paying the whole amount upfront? Sky offers monthly payment plans over either 24 or 48 months – but remember, it’s basically a loan, so you’ll need a credit check and you’ll have to keep paying even if you leave Sky.

Do note that, as Sky confirmed to us, this is a limited-time promotional discount – so the prices are set to return to normal once this offer ends.

What About The TV Service?

The timing of these price cuts is interesting, as Sky has recently launched their cheapest-ever TV package – Essential TV.

For £15 monthly (with a 24-month contract), you get Sky Atlantic (the exclusive home to big HBO shows like House of the Dragon and True Detective – at least until Max launches in the UK next year), Netflix Standard with Ads, and Discovery+ Standard with Eurosport thrown in.

If you prefer more flexibility, you can get the same package for £18 monthly on a rolling 31-day contract.

Need more channels? Sky Ultimate adds the full Sky Entertainment package for £22 monthly on a 24-month contract (currently down from £28), or £25 on a rolling contract (down from £31/m).

This includes extra channels like Sky Max, Sky Comedy, Sky Documentaries, Comedy Central, Gold and more – plus you still get Netflix and Discovery+ included.

On top of either of these base packages, you can add various extras:

Sky Sports is currently discounted to £20 monthly if you commit to 24 months (down from £28), or £27 on a rolling contract. This gets you all 8 Sky Sports channels in HD, including Premier League matches, F1 races, cricket and golf.

Film buffs might want to add Sky Cinema, which is down to £10 monthly on a 24-month contract (usually £13), or £13 on a rolling contract.

This includes all the Sky Cinema channels plus Paramount+ at no extra cost (the Standard tier) – giving you access to loads of films, Paramount+ exclusives and Showtime content.

If you’re big on sports, TNT Sports (formerly BT Sport) is available for £28 monthly, giving you access to UEFA Champions League matches, boxing, WWE and more.

And for the little ones, Sky Kids costs £6 monthly (down from £7) and includes thousands of episodes of children’s shows and dedicated channels.

Keep in mind that if you want Ultra HD (4K) and Dolby Atmos, you’ll need to add the UHD pack for an extra £6 monthly. There’s also a £5 monthly fee if you want to be able to skip adverts on catch-up content.

Is Sky Glass Worth Buying?

Here’s the thing – while Sky Glass is still a decent TV (especially if you want Sky without a dish), it’s getting quite old now.

With TV technology moving so quickly these days, we wouldn’t be surprised to see a new model announced in the coming months – though Sky hasn’t confirmed anything yet.

Meanwhile, if you’re tempted but don’t want to commit to a new TV right now, remember that Sky Stream offers the same streaming service in a small box that works with any TV – and you can get it with the new Essential TV package for just £15 monthly.

  1. Glass Gen 2 is 100% coming next month. It’s being trialled by several Sky employees right now. You would be a FOOL to purchase a Gen 1 version until you’ve seen what Gen 2 offers.
