With Christmas right around the corner, Sky is offering several gifts to its customers – free films, sporting fixtures (including a Premier League football match), and some perks for Sky Talk and Sky Mobile customers.
Some of the freebies will only be available to Sky TV subscribers, while others will be available to both Sky and some NOW subscribers.
NOW TV is Sky’s streaming TV service – you stream it via broadband, and can watch on a variety of devices, including on your TV, with supported streaming devices (See our full NOW TV review here).
You do need to be an existing customer of either of those, so the more accurate term is “at no extra cost” (and not exactly free) – but since NOW also offers a free trial, you COULD get some of these for free, if you time it correctly.
Normally, NOW Entertainment – which is the plan NOW customers need for these bonus perks – costs £9.99/month.
According to Sky, these gifts are a way to say “Thank You” to customers. A matching offer was made last year, when customers got access to a similar selection of free content.
Here’s what customers can get, for the 2021 festive season:
Four Sky Original Films (Sky TV and NOW Entertainment)
On December 27 and 28 four Sky Original films will air on the Sky Showcase channel.
Currently, the films are already available to members of NOW Cinema or Sky Cinema – but when they air on the live version of Sky Showcase, they will be available – at no extra cost – to all members of Sky TV, as well as NOW Entertainment members (who have regular access to Sky Showcase).
You will, however, need to watch them “live” – as they will not be available (for free) on-demand.
The four films are:
- Blithe Spirit
- Riverdance: The Animated Adventure
- Promising Young Woman
- SAS: Red Notice
Three Premium Sporting Events (Sky TV and NOW Entertainment)
Whether you’re a football fan, or maybe you prefer darts – you’ll get some free sports fixtures to watch this Christmas.
Again, you need to be an existing Sky or NOW Entertainment subscriber – but you DON’T need to be subscribed to a Sports package, as these three matches will air on the live Sky Showcase channel.
These three matches will air on Boxing Day (December 26) –
- Scottish Premiership – St Johnstone vs Celtic (12:30)
- English Football League – Barnsley v Stoke City (15:00)
- Premier League – Aston Villa v Chelsea (17:30)
Then, on December 27, you’ll get the PDC World Darts Championships.
Sing – Free On Sky Store (Sky TV / Sky Broadband Customers Only)
The 2016 animated film stars the voices of Matthew McConaughey, Reese Witherspoon, Seth MacFarlane, Scarlett Johansson and others. It follows the story of a theatre-owning koala who sets up a singing competition in a last-ditch bid to stay afloat.
Sing will be available to download or stream from Sky Store, and it’s completely free for Sky TV and Broadband customers, from December 8 to December 31.
However, we’re told NOW customers will not be getting this freebie.
Perks For Sky Talk and Sky Mobile Customers
Sky Talk customers will get free calls from their landline to anywhere in the world (including landlines AND mobiles), all day long on Christmas day.
Sky Mobile customers will get unlimited mobile data, to use anywhere within the UK, for two days –December 25 and 26.
