‘Paramount Network’ Channel Is Changing To 5Action

The Paramount Network free-to-air channel, which focuses on action, crime and wrestling, is changing its name and branding, and will soon be known as 5Action.

The channel is currently available on Freeview, Freesat, Sky and Virgin Media (which also has an HD version).

A ViacomCBS spokesman told us the channel’s content isn’t expected to change, and its programming will remain the same.

Paramount Network is owned by ViacomCBS, which also owns Channel 5 and its network of channels – 5Star, 5USA and 5Select.

The change is expected to take place on January 19, 2022, and will apparently serve two purposes: for one, the 5Action name will be more aligned with the names of its sister channels.

Furthermore, the change will help distinguish the channel from the upcoming Paramount+ streaming service

Paramount+ originally launched in the US as CBS All Access in 2014, but eventually changed its name to Paramount+. The service features films and TV shows from the archives of CBS, Viacom and Paramount, and some original shows – including, most notably, the new Star Trek shows.

Paramount+ is expected to launch in the UK in the coming months, both as a standalone service/app, and as an add-on to Sky customers on Sky Q and Sky Glass.

The launch would have created some confusion with the Paramount Network channel – which explains the name change to 5Action.

A ViacomCBS spokesman said:

“On 19 January 2022, 5Action will become the new name of Paramount Network in the UK. The rebrand will align the free-to-air channel more closely with Channel 5 and its portfolio of digital channels in the UK: 5Star, 5USA and 5Select.

“5Action’s new name will also signpost the high-octane mix of drama and factual entertainment that Paramount Network viewers have come to expect.”

What Can I Watch On 5Action?

If you’re already a fan of the Paramount Network channel, nothing will change for you, and you will keep seeing the same content (along with future additions), such as:

  • Yellowstone
  • Traffic Cops
