Fans of the classic science fiction series Farscape were distraught this week, when the entire show disappeared without a trace from Amazon Prime Video. But after approaching Amazon, we have good news: it’s coming back.
Farscape is a groundbreaking series from 1999, that follows an astronaut (Ben Browder) who stumbles into a wormhole and is thrown across a thousand galaxies to an alien world.
He then finds himself aboard a living starship populated by alien prisoners on the run (Read here why I think it’s a wonderful series, even today).
The show was created by Rockne S. O’Bannon and Brian Henson, and it also starred Claudia Black, Anthony Simcoe, Virginia Hey and Gigi Edgley.
For years, Farscape kept a loyal following all over the world. Alas, it was difficult to find, and even DVD collections weren’t always easy to obtain (especially in the UK, where the show originally aired on BBC2).
Then, all four seasons of the show, including the final mini-series, were added to Amazon Prime Video worldwide – and there was finally a place for newbies to get to know it, and oldies to do a proper re-watch.
Last week, weird things started to happen. First, Season 1 was suddenly “Unavailable” on Prime Video, pretty much all over the world.
Then, this week, the entire show was gone from Prime Video – in the UK and several other European countries. It is still available in the US, Canada, Australia and a few other places – though some fans are also reporting missing episodes.
Needless to say, Farscape’s fans got worried:
Why has Farscape been removed from Prime Video in the UK? I thought you were in talks to make more Farscape?

Hey Scaper army, can you do me a favor?
Can you retweet or tweet directly @AmazonHelp @PrimeVideo about bringing #Farscape back on the European market?
It is still on in the US and AU and NZ but no longer in Europe.

Well – we’ve got good news. We approached Amazon, asking whether the show is gone for good, or is coming back to Europe.
In their response, Amazon have said that “their system encountered a technical issue”, which has now been cleared – and the show should be back on the service within 24 hours.
Update: Farscape is now back on Amazon Prime Video UK.
