EE TV has announced a new benefit, ahead of the upcoming Paris 2024 Games. From now until August 12, all EE TV customers will have expanded access to Eurosport’s Olympic coverage at no extra cost, regardless of their current package.
This includes seven additional Eurosport channels and, for many customers, an upgrade to Discovery+ Standard, which includes the full Olympic coverage.
As the world turns its attention to Paris for the 2024 Olympic Games, set to run from July 26 to August 11, UK viewers are gearing up for extensive coverage across multiple platforms.
The BBC will continue its tradition of limited free-to-air broadcasting, offering over 250 hours of live action on BBC One and BBC Two, complemented by additional streams on BBC iPlayer.
However, the most comprehensive coverage will come from Eurosport and its streaming counterpart, Discovery+.
As the primary rights holders for the Olympics in the UK, Eurosport and Discovery+ are set to provide an unprecedented 3,800 hours of live content, covering all 329 medal events across the 32 Olympic sports.
This extensive coverage will be available through Eurosport’s linear channels on various pay-TV platforms and via the Discovery+ streaming service.
EE TV Offers Olympics At No Extra Cost
Today, EE TV – the TV platform offered to EE and BT broadband customers – has announced a new benefit to its service for the duration of the Olympic Games.
From now until August 12, all EE TV customers will have expanded access to Eurosport’s Olympic coverage, regardless of their current package.
The cornerstone of this new offering is the introduction of seven additional linear Eurosport channels –
- Eurosport 3
- Eurosport 4
- Eurosport 5
- Eurosport 6
- Eurosport 7
- Eurosport 8
- Eurosport 9
All EE TV subscribers, including those who already had Eurosport in their package, will now have access to Eurosport channels 3 through 9.
These channels will also be available in HD for customers who have the HD add-on.
Discovery+ Standard At No Extra Cost
Moreover, EE TV is upgrading the Discovery+ access for many of its customers.
Those who currently have the Discovery+ Basic tier as part of their TV package will be automatically upgraded to Discovery+ Standard at no extra cost for the duration of the Olympics.
This upgrade significantly expands the amount of Olympic content available to these customers, allowing them to stream every moment of the Games live.
The enhanced access isn’t limited to just the additional channels and upgraded Discovery+ tier – EE TV customers will also benefit from the full functionality of the Discovery+ app, which includes features designed to enhance the Olympic viewing experience.
These include in-player timeline markers, which allow viewers to easily navigate to key moments in an event, and gold medal alerts to ensure they don’t miss exciting competitions.
It’s worth noting that the level of access varies depending on the customer’s existing EE TV package.
Customers on the Entertainment and Big Entertainment packages, who typically only have access to Discovery+ Basic, will receive the upgrade to Discovery+ Standard and access to all Eurosport linear channels (at no extra cost).
Meanwhile, those on the Sport, Big Sport, and Full Works plans already have access to Discovery+ Premium, which also includes TNT Sports, and will retain this higher tier of access.
EE TV has stated that customers don’t need to take any action to receive these benefits. The expanded access will be automatically applied to their accounts for the duration of the offer period, making it a seamless enhancement to their existing service.
EE TV Limited Time Discounts
As we recently reported, EE TV is currently offering discounts on several of its TV bundles, making its services more attractive to potential subscribers.
The Entertainment bundle, which includes Netflix, NOW Entertainment and Discovery+ Basic (currently Standard), as well as a 4K Freeview recording box or a custom Apple TV 4K box, is now available for £15 per month, down from its usual £20 per month.
This discounted price is locked in for the entire 24-month contract period.
For sports enthusiasts, the Sport bundle, which includes TNT Sports (formerly BT Sport), Eurosport, and Discovery+ Premium, is now priced at £16 per month, reduced from £20 per month, also for a 24-month contract.
EE TV is also offering significant, albeit shorter-term, discounts on its more comprehensive packages. The Big Sport bundle is available for £5 per month for the first three months, before reverting to its standard price of £45 per month.
Similarly, the Full Works bundle, which includes all sports channels plus all entertainment options, is discounted to £25 per month for the first three months, then returns to its regular price of £78 per month.
It’s important to note that while these discounts are substantial, they come with a 24-month commitment. Additionally, EE TV has implemented an annual price increase model, which means prices will rise by £2 per month for TV bundles in March 2025.
Not An EE TV Customers? Discovery+ Has Another Deal For You
For viewers who are not EE TV customers but still want access to comprehensive Olympics coverage, Discovery+ is currently offering a limited-time discount on its standalone service.
From now until August 11, new and returning subscribers can access the Discovery+ Standard tier for £3.99 per month, a reduction from its usual price of £6.99/month.
This discounted rate will remain in effect until December 2024, providing subscribers with several months of reduced-price access beyond the Olympic Games (but you can cancel anytime – there’s no long-term contract).
The Standard tier includes full Eurosport coverage of the Olympics, offering the same 3,800 hours of live content and access to all 329 medal events that EE TV customers will enjoy.
The Discovery+ app is widely available on most smart TVs and streaming devices sold in the UK, including Amazon’s Fire TV, Roku, and Sky Stream (as well as on EE TV’s devices).
It’s also accessible as a separate channel on Amazon’s Prime Video, allowing subscribers to watch via the Prime Video app if they prefer – where the current price reduction is also available.
