Disney+ Price Rise: Here’s How To Beat The Increase

With Disney Plus’ price going up on February 23, you still have one last chance to keep paying the lower price while saving 20% – at least for a while.

Here’s how to do it – and what the increase is going to mean to you if you’re already subscribed to Disney+.

Disney+, the streaming service from Disney, launched in the UK back in March 2020. Currently, it features content from the worlds of Disney, Marvel, Pixar, Star Wars and National Geographic.

On February 23, however, Disney+ is adding a whole new category of content, called “Star”, which will feature more mature content and general entertainment (as opposed to the other Disney+ categories, that are aimed at the entire family, including children).

With more than 75 TV shows and 270 movies, Star will double the amount of content available on Disney+, including four new original productions – Big Sky, Love, Victor, Solar Opposites and Helstrom.

The rest of the Star launch lineup is made mostly of older “library” classics, such as Lost, Desperate Housewives, Buffy The Vampire Slayer and more. You can see the full Star launch lineup here.

Currently, Disney+ costs £5.99/month or £59.99 for a full year in the UK. Starting February 23, the price is going up to £7.99/month or £79/year.

Therefore, those who subscribe before February 23, will pay the lower price – for a time:

  • If you subscribe now and pay monthly, you will pay £5.99/month until August 23, and then your price will go up (to £7.99).
  • If you subscribe now for a year, you will pay £59.99 for the whole year – and your price will only go up (to £79) once you renew, in 2022.

Therefore, if you’re not subscribed yet and are thinking about it – make sure you sign up before February 23.

What Happens To Existing Disney Plus Customers?

If you’re already subscribed to Disney+, the current prices you’re paying will be honoured for 6 months – depending on which subscription period you’re on. So:

  • Existing Disney+ Monthly Subscribers – Will continue to pay the lower (£5.99/month) price until August 23 – at which point the price will go up to £7.99/month. If you cancel your subscription before August 23, and then re-subscribe (even before August 23) – you will pay the new, higher price.
  • Existing Disney+ Annual Customers – If you are due to renew your annual subscription before August 23, you will pay the lower price (£59.99/year). Any annual renewal AFTER August 23, will be at the new, higher price (£79/year).
