Virgin Media Cuts Broadband Costs, Netflix Now Bundled In

Virgin Media has launched its October broadband and TV sale with discounts across the range – especially considering some of the broadband tiers now come with Netflix included.

The standout offers include M500 broadband with Netflix for £27.99 per month (down from the normal £33.99), and Gig1 with Netflix for £29.99 (down from £38.99).

Both packages now include Netflix Standard with Ads (even if you don’t sign up for a TV bundle), which normally costs £5.99 on its own, plus there’s no setup fee – saving you £35 upfront.

There are discounts across Virgin Media’s entire broadband range, all on 24-month contracts. The deals are expected to run until November 5, 2025, though that date could be extended.

As usual, these prices are for new customers only. However, if you’re an existing Virgin Media customer approaching the end of your contract, it’s worth calling them to negotiate.

Mention these new customer deals, threaten to leave if necessary, and there’s a good chance you’ll get similar pricing – or sometimes even better offers than what new customers receive.

But if you’re a new customer – here’s what you can currently get.

Virgin Media’s Recent Changes

Before we take a closer look at the deals, there are a few recent changes worth mentioning.

Back in July, Virgin Media made a significant change to how they handle TV. New customers (with TV bundles) now automatically receive a Stream box rather than the TV 360 system that was previously the standard option.

Virgin Media TV 360 stream

The Stream box is a streaming-only device that delivers Freeview channels over your broadband connection and provides access to apps like Netflix and Disney+.

The problem? It doesn’t record anything.

Unlike the TV 360, which can record multiple programmes simultaneously and build up libraries of content, the Stream box is purely for live viewing and on-demand.

You can’t record programmes to watch later, and you can’t fast-forward through adverts unless you’re watching something already available on catch-up.

If that’s important in your household, you can still get a TV 360 box if you specifically call and request it, but you’ll likely pay around £50 for installation. Worse still, in some full fibre areas, TV 360 isn’t available at all – the Stream box is your only option.

Then, at the start of October, Virgin Media overhauled its pricing structure. They bumped annual price rises from £3.50 to £4 per month and added Netflix Standard with Ads to several packages.

They also finally upgraded Sky Sports channels to HD at no extra cost, which was long overdue given they’d been charging an additional £7/month for HD previously.

The pattern is clear – Virgin Media is leaning heavily into streaming. Netflix is now bundled across their TV packages and higher-tier broadband deals, and the Stream box has become the default hardware.

What’s On Offer

Virgin Media’s October sale includes the following broadband-only packages on 24-month contracts, all with no setup fee (saving £35):

M125 Fibre Broadband – £23.99/month

  • Average download speeds of 132Mbps
  • Suitable for 5-9 devices
  • No Netflix included
  • £2 discount from the standard £25.99/month price
  • Rises to £27.99/month from April 2026, then £31.99/month from April 2027

M350 Fibre Broadband – £25.99/month

  • Average download speeds of 362Mbps
  • Suitable for 10+ devices
  • No Netflix included
  • £3 discount from the standard £28.99/month price
  • Rises to £29.99/month from April 2026, then £33.99/month from April 2027

M500 + Netflix – £27.99/month

  • Average download speeds of 500Mbps
  • Netflix Standard with Ads included
  • Suitable for 10+ devices and heavy streaming households
  • £6 discount from the standard £33.99/month price
  • Rises to £31.99/month from April 2026, then £35.99/month from April 2027

Gig1 + Netflix – £29.99/month

  • Average download speeds of 1,130Mbps
  • Netflix Standard with Ads included
  • WiFi guarantee (minimum 30Mbps in every room or £100 credit)
  • £9 discount from the standard £38.99/month price
  • Rises to £33.99/month from April 2026, then £37.99/month from April 2027

All packages include Virgin Media’s Essential Security software at no extra cost.

Every single package is discounted from its standard rate – the M125 and M350 get modest £2-£3 reductions, while the M500 and Gig1 packages offer more substantial £6-£9 savings. Plus there’s that £35 setup fee waived across the board.

The real value is in the M500 and Gig1 packages, where you’re getting both fast broadband and Netflix for less than you’d normally pay for the broadband alone.

Netflix Standard with Ads normally costs £5.99 per month if you subscribe directly. Virgin Media only added Netflix to broadband-only packages in early October, so this bundling is relatively new.

Netflix on smartphone

Previously, you’d have needed to take a TV bundle to get Netflix included.

If you were planning to get both fast broadband and Netflix anyway, these deals represent solid value. The M125 and M350 packages don’t include Netflix, so if you don’t need ultra-fast speeds and don’t want Netflix, those lower tiers might suit you – though the discounts are fairly modest.

Also note that if you already have a Netflix subscription, you can transfer it over (with your current Netflix profiles) to your Virgin Media account – and then stop paying for that separate subscription.

Also, if you want to upgrade from Netflix Standard with Ads to one of the other tiers, you can do so via Virgin Media, by paying extra, of course.

Lastly, please remember that the broadband-only deals DO NOT come with the Stream box included, so you’ll have to find a different device to watch Netflix on (such as your Smart TV or a streaming stick).

If you want the Stream box – you’ll have to sign up for one of the broadband+TV bundles, which are also currently discounted.

The M500 Deal: Breaking Down The Value

Let’s focus on the M500 package at £27.99, which is likely to appeal to more households than the ultra-fast Gig1 option.

If you bought these services separately at their standard prices:

  • M500 broadband: £33.99/month
  • Netflix Standard with Ads: £5.99/month
  • Total: £39.98/month

But there’s a catch. Virgin Media contracts now include a fixed annual price increase of £4 per month every April. Your actual costs will be:

  • Months 1-6 (October 2025 to March 2026): £27.99/month
  • Months 7-18 (April 2026 to March 2027): £31.99/month
  • Months 19-24 (April 2027 onwards): £35.99/month

Even with those increases, it’s still a decent saving compared to standard pricing, but those annual increases do add up. Plus, this potential saving only works if you were going to keep Netflix for 24 months anyway.

The 500Mbps speeds should be more than adequate for most households. You can comfortably stream 4K content on multiple devices simultaneously, handle video calls, and manage a houseful of connected devices without issues.

Unless you’re regularly downloading massive files or have an unusually data-heavy household, you probably don’t need gigabit speeds.

For context, streaming 4K content on Netflix uses around 25Mbps per stream. Even with four simultaneous 4K streams running, you’d only be using 100Mbps – leaving plenty of headroom on a 500Mbps connection.

The End-of-Contract Problem

Here’s something Virgin Media doesn’t shout about – what happens when your 24-month contract ends.

If you don’t renegotiate, your bill will jump dramatically:

  • M125 jumps to £48/month
  • M350 jumps to £66/month
  • M500 jumps to £72/month
  • Gig1 jumps to £78/month

These are eye-watering increases. Your M500 package would go from £35.99 (after two years of £4 annual increases) to £72/month overnight – effectively doubling your bill.

Never, ever accept Virgin Media’s automatic renewal prices. When you’re approaching the end of your contract, call them well in advance – ideally a month or two before it expires.

Mention competitor deals, threaten to leave, and negotiate hard (but politely). Virgin Media would much rather keep you on a discounted rate than lose you entirely.

Existing customers who call to negotiate often get the same deals as new customers, and sometimes even better offers that aren’t publicly advertised. It’s frustrating that you need to play this game, but that’s how Virgin Media operates.

Set a reminder for yourself now – 23 months from when you sign up – so you don’t forget to renegotiate before those out-of-contract prices kick in.

The Volt Angle

If you’re an O2 customer or thinking of switching to O2, there’s another option worth considering – Volt bundles.

Virgin Media O2 recently refreshed Volt, which combines Virgin Media broadband with an O2 mobile plan. Previously, Volt only worked with O2’s Classic Plan, but now you can choose between Classic, Plus, or Ultimate Plans.

The core Volt benefits are:

  • Double mobile data on your O2 plan
  • Broadband speed boost to the next tier (up to 1Gbps)
  • WiFi guarantee (minimum 30Mbps in every room or £100 credit)

Depending on which O2 plan you choose, you also get streaming perks through O2 Extra:

Classic Plan includes 3 months of access to services like Disney+ or Amazon’s Prime Video, plus EU roaming and O2 Travel Inclusive Zone covering 75 countries.

Plus Plan bumps that to 6 months of O2 Extra access and adds data rollover.

Ultimate Plan includes lifetime O2 Extra access (for the duration of your contract), letting you choose from Disney+ Premium, Prime, or Cafeyn. You also get McAfee Security and extended roaming to 123 countries.

If you were already considering both Virgin Media broadband and an O2 mobile plan, Volt can work out well – particularly if those streaming services align with what you’d subscribe to anyway.

Getting Disney+ Premium or Amazon’s Prime Video included for the lifetime of your contract could be worthwhile if you actually use them.

But it only makes sense if you genuinely want these services, not just because they’re “included.” Don’t let bundled extras you won’t use justify a package you don’t need.
