Toshiba has taken another step forward in the UK television market today, with the launch of its QF5D series, a first-of-its-kind (for the company) offering that combines QLED technology with Amazon’s Fire TV.

Known for its long-standing presence in the industry, Toshiba has unveiled this new range with an eye on catering to the content-rich demands of modern-day viewers – and streaming fans in particular.

Starting at an accessible price of £349, the QF5D series aims to deliver high-quality visuals paired with the Fire TV’s comprehensive content ecosystem, making it an intriguing proposition for those looking to enhance their home entertainment experience.

The QF5D series, available in sizes ranging from 43″ to 65″, combines cutting-edge QLED display technology with Amazon’s popular Fire TV platform.

By integrating Fire TV, the QF5D range has Alexa baked right in. For those with an existing Alexa setup, this ensures seamless integration and smart home control, effectively making the TV a Smart Home command centre.

Fire TV’s rich content ecosystem offers access to a plethora of streaming services and apps including Amazon’s Prime Video, Netflix, NOW, Disney+ and Paramount+ among others.

In addition, Freeview Play is onboard for a seamless combination of live, catch-up, and on-demand content, with apps from all the public broadcasters – BBC iPlayer, ITVX, Channel 4, My5 and STV Player.

Top Sound And Picture Levels

At the heart of the QF5D series is Toshiba’s award-winning QLED technology.

QLED displays are known for their vibrant colours and high brightness levels, and Toshiba promises no less.

It boasts an array of one billion colour shades, restoring compressed broadcast content to its original radiance.

The TVs are powered by Toshiba’s TRU Picture Engine, which includes TRU Resolution for upscaling non-4K content, TRU Micro-Dimming for optimizing contrast in 300 zones, and TRU Flow for minimizing judder in fast-paced action scenes.

Dolby Vision further enhances the viewing experience by delivering colours and highlights that are exceptionally vivid and blacks that are incredibly deep.

As for the sound, Toshiba has partnered with Onkyo, to ensure that the QF5D’s speakers deliver sound that is life-like and precise.

Bart Kuijten, Commercial Director – Toshiba TV UK, expressed his excitement:

“We are thrilled to expand Toshiba’s cooperation with Fire TV with the launch of the QF5D with Fire TV built-in, giving our customers access to a huge range of entertainment all from one place.

“The QF5D is packed with tech, offering incredible picture quality with fantastic, enhanced colour reproduction, making it the ideal model for people to enjoy more of their favourite big screen moments”.

Earlier this year, Amazon launched its own series of TV sets with Fire TV built-in, in the UK – the Omni series.

The Omni TV range features 4K QLED displays, an integrated Fire TV experience, hands-free Alexa capabilities through built-in microphones, and an ‘Ambient Experience’ that allows the screen to display personalized art and photos.

The Omni series is aimed at the high-end segment of the market, with sizes ranging from 43″ to 65″ inches and prices starting at £249.99 for the smaller, non-QLED models.

With the QF5D series, Toshiba TV has positioned itself as a strong contender in the affordable smart TV market.

Currently available in 43″, 50″, 55″ and 65″ models, the Toshiba QF5D series can be purchased at Amazon from just £349.
