Sky Sports is betting big on technology to transform how we watch Premier League football, with Sky Glass and Stream users set to benefit from a suite of new features that promise to solve some of modern football viewing’s biggest frustrations.

The broadcaster has announced significant changes for the 2025/26 season, including smart team-tracking features, enhanced catch-up functionality, and a new multi-match viewing format designed to handle those chaotic Sundays when four Premier League games kick off simultaneously.

The changes come as Sky expands its Premier League coverage to a record 215 live matches this season, up from 128 last year.

This expansion means Sky now holds the rights to every displaced Sunday 2pm kick-off, creating what they’re calling “supersized Super Sundays” with up to four simultaneous live matches.

Multiview Tackles Multiple Match Problem

Sky’s main innovation this season is Multiview, a new programme designed to handle multiple concurrent matches.

The format will cut between all live games to show goals and key moments, complete with dedicated commentary and half-time analysis.

It’s a solution to a problem that’s plagued football fans for years – that frustrating moment when your team scores while you’re watching another match, or when you’re frantically trying to keep track of multiple relegation battles happening simultaneously.

Rather than relying on split-screen feeds or constantly channel-hopping, Multiview promises to do the work for you.

Multiview will be available across Sky TV platforms, NOW, and the Sky Sports app.

Sky is also introducing Extra Time, an hour-long analysis show hosted by Jamie Carragher that will air at 7:30pm on the busiest Sundays.

Sky Glass and Stream Feature Updates

Sky Glass and Stream subscribers will receive several sport-specific updates throughout the season, leveraging their internet-based technology in ways that traditional broadcasting can’t match.

Enhanced Navigation and Match Reminders

On-screen match reminders will appear across TV guide channels for live sport.

This means you’ll get notifications about upcoming matches regardless of what channel you’re currently watching – no more missing kick-offs because you were engrossed in a Netflix series (similar to how programme notifications work on Freeview boxes, for example).

The system will work across the entire TV guide, so whether you’re browsing through entertainment channels or catching up on the news, you’ll still get alerts about relevant sporting events.

Team Pages and Playlist Integration

The new Team pages feature allows users to add favourite teams to their Playlist, consolidating upcoming matches and related content from various channels and apps into one location.

This goes beyond just Sky Sports content – you’ll see fixtures, related documentaries, and even content from other apps all organised by your chosen teams.

For example, if you follow Liverpool, your team page might display their next Premier League match on Sky Sports, as well as any Liverpool-related documentaries available on demand – even from other apps and streaming services.

Improved Catch-Up Functionality

Users will be able to start watching matches from the beginning even if they tune in late, and replay full matches after they finish. These features will also roll out to Sky Q users soon.

The “start from beginning” feature is particularly useful for modern life. If you’re supposed to be watching the 3pm kick-off but get delayed, you can tune in at 3:30pm and still watch the match from the actual start, rather than jumping in mid-flow.

The full match replay function allows you to rewatch the entire game after it finishes. This isn’t just extended highlights – it’s the complete broadcast, including commentary and analysis.

Sky Sports+ Integration

Later this year, all live events currently accessible through the Sky Sports+ platform will be integrated directly into the main Sky Glass and Stream interface.

Currently, users must access these streams through a separate app, which can feel clunky when you’re trying to quickly switch between different matches.

This integration means those additional Sky Sports+ streams  will appear alongside regular Sky Sports channels in your main TV guide.

Programming Changes

Sky Sports News is implementing a new weekday schedule to accommodate the expanded football coverage:

  • 7am-10am: Sky Sports Breakfast
  • 10am-12pm: Sky Sports Fan Club (new interactive show)
  • 5pm-7pm: The Premier League Show (new weekday programme)

The new Sky Sports Fan Club will integrate WhatsApp voice notes into broadcasts – a sign that Sky is trying to make television feel more interactive in an age of social media.

Friday editions of The Premier League Show will be hosted by Roman Kemp. Weekend programming includes Goals on Sunday (7am-9am) and a refreshed Sunday Supplement (9am-11am).

Fan Integration and Mobile Updates

Sky has partnered with Fanalysis to incorporate fan-driven player ratings and opinions into live coverage and Sky Sports News. The Sky Sports app will also feature instant vertical highlights designed for mobile viewing.

The presenting team gains Mark Chapman this season, joining David Jones and Kelly Cates. The punditry lineup remains largely unchanged, featuring Gary Neville, Jamie Carragher, Roy Keane, and others.

What It Means for Viewers

The changes represent Sky’s most significant Premier League coverage expansion since securing the current rights deal, which runs until 2029.

Sky will also broadcast all final day matches live for the first time, ensuring viewers can follow every twist in the title race, European qualification battles, and relegation fights as they unfold.

It’s worth remembering that Sky’s 215 matches represent the majority, but not all, of Premier League coverage.

TNT Sports still holds rights to 52 matches per season, including the Saturday 12:30pm slot. So while Sky’s expanded offering is impressive, you’ll still need both Sky Sports and TNT Sports subscriptions to watch every Premier League match.
