Football fans in the UK have a new reason to cheer as FIFA+, the digital destination for football content, joins Pluto TV’s lineup of free streaming channels.
This will bring thousands of hours of football-related content to viewers, all without the need for a subscription – although you will have to endure advert breaks.
Pluto TV is available on a wide range of streaming sticks, therefore, the addition of Fifa+ will bring it to many more households around the country.
What is FIFA+?
FIFA+ is a streaming service that offers a wide range of football content, including documentaries, original series, and historic match replays – all for free, but with adverts.
Launched in 2022, it aims to provide football fans with behind-the-scenes looks at the sport, spotlights on global stars, and the chance to relive iconic moments from past FIFA World Cups.
The service is typically available worldwide through its website and dedicated apps for smart TVs, mobile devices, and streaming sticks like the Amazon Fire TV.
However, the version coming to Pluto TV will be the ad-supported linear channel, meaning viewers will watch according to a pre-determined schedule rather than choosing content on-demand.
Pluto TV: Free Streaming with a Catch
For those unfamiliar with Pluto TV, it’s a free, ad-supported streaming television service that’s been available in the UK since 2018.
Unlike traditional streaming platforms, Pluto TV doesn’t require a subscription. Instead, it offers a range of curated live channels that viewers can watch for free, with the trade-off being regular advert breaks.
The Pluto TV app is available on a wide range of devices – Fire TV, Roku, Apple TV, Smart TVs, Virgin Media TV (but not on Sky), and many others.
Last year, plans were announced to merge Pluto TV and Channel 5’s app (My5), as both are owned by Paramount – but those plans were recently scrapped.
What to Expect from FIFA+ on Pluto TV
The FIFA+ channel on Pluto TV will feature a variety of content, including:
- Documentaries and original series from around the world
- Historic full match replays and highlights from FIFA World Cups
- Behind-the-scenes interviews and features
Viewers can also look forward to diverse and engaging content that showcases the many facets of football culture: From Gary Lineker’s interviews with fellow Golden Boot winners to the unique perspective of celebrity barber HD Cutz tending to footballers in his barber chair.
Some additional upcoming highlights include:
- A look back at the 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa on September 21
- A celebration of Mexican Independence Day on September 16, featuring highlights from the Mexican National Team
- World Champions Spain showcasing highlights from the men’s victory in South Africa and the women’s 2023 successes, airing September 28th-29th.
As mentioned, while the full FIFA+ service offers on-demand content through its website and apps, the Pluto TV version will be a linear channel only. This means viewers will need to tune in at specific times to catch their favourite content.
Whether the Fifa+ channel is your cup of tea will probably depend on how much you love football and how patient you are with adverts.
If you’re always hungry for more football content and don’t mind a few advert breaks, you’re likely to find some engaging content.
