Crime+Investigation Play, a streaming service dedicated to true crime dramas and documentaries, is launching in the UK next month as a standalone app.
The VOD service will include over 1,000 hours of premium programming and local originals for true crime enthusiasts.
The service, which comes from A+E Networks, is already available in the UK as a premium Amazon Prime Video channel, and is also available on Sky, Virgin Media and on Apple TV’s channels.
But on September 5, 2022, Crime+Investigation PLAY will also be available direct to consumers in the UK for the first time, via a dedicated app on streaming devices and Smart TVs.
Crime+Investigation has been around since 2019 as an add-on channel, and is home to top-rating true crime series such as Crimes That Shook Britain, Murdertown, Meet Marry Murder and Cold Case Files.
The standalone streaming version, Crime+Investigation Play, will offer true crime enthusiasts gripping binge-worthy boxsets, an extensive library of browsable content and curated collections.
Furthermore, the service will offer new compelling content available weekly, including the latest UK commissions such as Rob Rinder’s Interrogation Secrets and Murdertown 4.
It will also feature genre-defining franchises such as Meet, Marry, Murder, The Jail: 60 Days In, Killer Britain with Dermot Murnaghan, Homicide Hunter and The First 48, and agenda-setting docu-series such as Surviving R. Kelly, Secrets of Playboy and Surviving Jeffrey Epstein.
The streaming service will be available via a dedicated Crime+Investigation Play app, on the leading streaming devices and platforms.
A+E Networks declined to reveal the price at this point, but we assume it will be similar to the Prime Video Channels version, which currently stands at £3.99/month (after a free 7-day trial).
The Prime Video Channel version, however, also requires an Amazon Prime subscription with the channel subscription paid on top. Therefore, true crime fans without a Prime subscription will finally be able to subscribe to the service directly.
Dean Possenniskie, Managing Director at A+E Networks UK & EMEA, said of today’s announcement:
“The popularity of true crime content has exploded in the last few years, and as a leading broadcaster in this space, Crime+Investigation has played a key role in that growth.
“Its clear proposition, quality content, and journalistic integrity have helped to transform the broad appeal of true crime programming.
“Our ambition now is to bring the most comprehensive collection of premium true crime programming to new audiences in the UK while continuing to grow the quality of this passion brand with established partners such as Sky, Virgin, and Amazon.”
Curious fans can sign up on the service’s website and get more information once the service launches in September.
